Lk.4:18-19, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Jesus Christ read this scripture from Isaiah, declaring His mission through the power of Holy Spirit – demonstrating His title as the Christ – Anointed One. The gospels provide lessons from Jesus’ life and ministry as an example for our ministry today. 1 Jn. 4:17 – “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.”
A major aspect of the anointing is to proclaim liberty and set captives free. Everywhere you go, Satan’s captives are all around – even includes many in our churches. These people have been captured and held as POWs behind enemy lines, bound in demonic deceit. Here are some of the lies with which Satan holds them captive:
· No one cares about me
· I’m all alone in this world
· Bible doesn’t work
· Church is filled with hypocrites
· All they want is my money
· They don’t even love each other
The real problem is that often there’s just enough vestige of truth in some of these lies to make them believable in people’s minds keeping them locked up cells of their own making. Some of you would be amazed at the percentage of believers we minister to who are trapped in these same lies!
2 Tim. 2:24-26 – “And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.”
The KJV of the Bible calls these people as “those who oppose themselves”. What an apt description – they resist the very One who loves them. The coming spiritual revolution will involve the anointing of setting spiritual POWs free from Satan’s lies. Are you prepared to be a “Freedom Fighter”? Have you become a partner with Holy Spirit in this spiritual campaign to set the captives free? Or maybe you need to be set free from bondage as well. Now’s the appointed time for liberty to be proclaimed and POWs set free! Amen.
